I never regretted reading any book but few books are certainly painful. They leave lasting impact on your mind and one such book I have ever read is “Mazi Janmathep” My Life Sentence, by great freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

“My Life Sentence” is an autobiographical and historically significant book written by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. In this work, Savarkar provides a heartfelt description of the struggles, arrests, court cases, and the inhumane torture endured in the Cellular Jail in the Andaman Islands (the punishment of black water) during his revolutionary life.

This book serves as a living testimony to his courageous actions in the freedom struggle against British rule, the sacrifices of his comrades, and his dedication to the nation. It vividly portrays the harsh life in prison, the atrocities faced by prisoners, the mental and physical struggles, and the unwavering patriotism amidst adverse circumstances.

I was spellbound, when I finished reading the book. What a great sacrifice and extraordinary patriotism. Even today when I reacall the torture and harsh life in prison, it brings tears to my eyes.
