Monsoon is a popular season for outing, especially to the ghat sections where you can enjoy scenic beauty & waterfalls. This is a time when the nature is lush green. Pune is surrounded by various ghats. Tamhini Ghat is a very popular place of visit for Punites during Monsoon. However Varandha Ghat is most picturesque ghat and I would rate it one of the best places to visit. However the name Varandha Ghat is associated with words like Not to visit alone, Very Lonely place etc.
For me it was a very heavenly experience to visit Varandha Ghat during monsoon. It was amazing drive through clouds.
Varandha ghat section is located at the crest of Western ghats. Drive to this location is so exciting and picturesque that you will fall in love with the nature’s beauty.
Reaching Varadha ghat is easy. It is approx. 80 KM from Pune. Drive to Satara Highway from Pune and then turn right from service road towards Ketkawla village. Then once again taking U turn you enter the road to Bhor and then onwards to Varandha ghat, you drive along the Neera river by one side and the hills by another side. We took lot of photo stops on the way cause nature is irresistible. You will find lush green hills and valleys full with mist. Some of the spots during this drive are full with fog.
Once you reach the highest point on the ghat, there is a temple and few of the hotels that sell delicious snacks and hot ginger tea. Standing at this point, you can look at the hills just in front of you and it is heavenly experience to witness the magic of Nature. Every minute the scene changes, you see clear sky and white water stream flowing down in the background of lush green hills and then suddenly everything is surrounded by the clouds. This cannot be expressed in words, one must experience this.
The photographs below show this view, which I tried to capture in my DSLR.
On the way to Varandha Ghat, you will see few waterfalls during monsoon season. You can see some images below.
Normally during monsoon season every weekend I am out with my camera to various places around Pune. This time I was also accompanied by one of my photographer friends. We took driver along with us so that we could enjoy the beautiful nature and capture some landscapes. Some of the pics are posted below.
