Once, I was walking back to my house from college. Suddenly I saw a wallet lying on the road and no one was around. I picked up the wallet because I saw some credit/debit cards popping out of the wallet. This was the first time, I could find so expensive on the road. I was very much worried as to has anyone saw me and will police catch on the charges of theft. So I rushed home with the idea that it should reach the owner safely.
I came home and showed the wallet to my father. His first question was, why did you bring it home, you should have deposited it to the near by police station. Actually, I was scared to go to police station alone. so I brought it home.
All of us at home were worried for the man who lost it. Then somehow we could trace back the owner’s name and address. Then we found out his telephone number from the directory and dialled his number. That time only landline phones existed so we have to dial to his landline number.
His response was very enthusiastic and he was extremely happy that the wallet was found by me. He immediately rushed to our home and collected the wallet. He offered me some cash gift in return but I declined politely.
The strange thing was that the wallet contained, name & address of his childhood friend, whom he was going to meet in the evening after almost 25-30 years. And for him the piece of paper containing his friend’s name and address was precious. He was very happy that he got it back.
Then we had chat over the tea and came to know he was a big businessman of the city. He enquired about my studies and offered me a job in his office and said I am badly in need of such honest people. Can you join me?.
I happily accepted the offer and that is how I got my first job.
