How did you meet your significant other?

This is almost 36 years ago when I met my better half for the first time. In Maharashtra state, it is traditional practice that the boy will visit the girl’s house along with his parents to see the girl. In this program you are allowed to interact with the girl, ask few questions and even the girl also asks questions.
The proposals are received in advance by boy’s parents and they check the family compatibility as well as the girl suitability with their son. Only after this basic scrutiny the boy visits the girls house. This program is famous with the name Kande Pohe meet. During the meeting, Kande Pohe means the flattened rice flakes cooked with chopped onions are served.
Normally the Kande Pohe is prepared by the girl to demonstrate her culinary skills. This style of meeting is no more valid now. The parents are not part of the scene and girl and boy meet in a restaurant.
I know this tradition will look weird for today’s generation. Today’s boys and girls meet in some cafe or a good restaurant. But during our times this was the only way we could meet each other.
During such meetings, it used to be awkward position for both. Because boy and girl were the center of attention for all other family members. So the interaction used to be short and brief. This was the only slot available for both of them to decide for their future life. This used to be certainly tough for both of them. But during my time the second meeting was possible. Luckily I could get second meeting arranged and we had good discussions over lunch regarding our future plans.
My daughter used to ask me this question about this tradition of Kande Pohe meet. Papa how can you decide to spend whole life someone whom you have met for few minutes. I said knowing somebody is not so easy but finally when you meet someone and the bell rings in your heart then go for it.
Thank you my dear readers for stopping by
Stay happy and keep smiling ☺️
