I was born in Independent India but whatever I have seen & read about the partition of India – India and Pakistan was painful for all the people.
The Partition of India in 1947 split British India into two independent nations: India and Pakistan, on 15th August 1947. Driven by the two nation theory and political divides, the rushed boundary lines drawn by Sir Cyril Radcliffe led to mass migration of 14 to 15 million people and up to a million or more deaths from communal violence.
The causes of the partition could be anything like Colonial Politics, Political Demand or Failed Negotiations but the overall execution was extremely painful and the scars of the partition are still fresh.
The human cost was incredubly high. Roughly 15 million Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs crossed newly formed borders in the largest migration in human history. Violence and Loss: Widespread riots and atrocities caused hundreds of thousands to two million deaths. Geographic Split: Pakistan was formed with two wings—West Pakistan and East Pakistan—separated by about 1,000 miles of Indian territory (East Pakistan later became Bangladesh in 1971).
The partition has Lasting Effects on the peole of both the counreis. There are numerous families who have been divided in two countries and could not meet each other for years. I have seen these painfull migrations in the films and read in the books.
I fail to understand, how can someone draw a line on the map and order the division of a country into two. I want to earse this event from history.
