How has technology changed your job?

Our generation has seen innumerable improvements in technology and the way we live. I am proud to say that we have survived all these changes. We were adaptive to the changes and adjusted our life consequent to those changes.

Reaction to Change

It is hard to adapt to the changes. You have to come out of your comfort zones. Many resist the change tooth and nail so that they don’t have to come out of circle of comfort. Usual reaction of such people is throwing tantrums, proving the change to be useless. They even go to extent that such people team up together to resist the change. This is dangerous for any improvement or progress.

Effects of the Technological Change

Every change brings some new challenges. There could be change in the way you work or may be go through the cycle of Learn – Unlearn – Re-learn. Initially the change brings some discomfort. Particularly in the large organisations the change implementation is a huge task. There are change agents nominated for smoother implementation. There is need for retraining affected employees with new technologies.

Changes in my job due to Technology Change

In my 42 years of corporate job I have seen huge technological changes. Every change demanded change in the way I work. Accepting and adapting change was important for me. We were trained to face the challenges new technology brings. And the motivation was visit to foreign countries for training.

For example initially we started with MRP and then Enterprise Resources Planning software. By the time we were familiar with the ERP system then SAP was running. For all these changes Unlearn & Relearn was must.

Conclusion

Change is always better. Change brings new energy new hope and new opportunities. You must embrace the change gracefully. The best way to adapt the changes is –

• Sense the change in advance
• Prepare yourself for the changes
• Acquire required skills for the change
• Publicise the change and train the people involved.
• Celebrate the successful implementation.

Embrace the change gracefully because change is always for better.
