How much would you pay to go to the moon?

The moon, or Chandoba, has been more than just a celestial body to me; he has been my constant childhood companion. Growing up, my mother didn’t have a real brother, so for every festival, she would look up to her lovely brother in the sky—the moon. From a very early age, he became our favorite uncle, our cherished “Chandoba Mama,” a quiet yet ever-present part of our family.
He was there when I refused to eat my meals, shining patiently through the window. He was there during sleepless nights, and I recall my mother singing the Marathi lullaby: “Limbonichya zadamage chandra zopala ga bai” (“The moon has gone to sleep behind the lemon tree, my child”) to soothe me to rest. The moonlight filled my bedroom, a silent accomplice in my childhood mischief and a comforting presence during quiet moments.
In my youth, as I searched for my life partner, I dreamt of finding a woman like the moon—a Chandramukhi—whose face held the same gentle radiance and serene beauty. That image, the ideal of a moon-faced beloved, was a testament to the moon’s deep influence on my perceptions of beauty and love.
The moon has always been an integral part of my life, a steadfast presence in my heart no matter how far away he seems. Such a precious relationship, rich with memory and emotion, cannot be valued in money. It is truly priceless. How could I ever pay to meet my uncle, my Chandoba?
I don’t need to travel into space to see him; he is always with me, a faithful companion visible from my window. Sometimes, the most profound power lies in what we don’t fully know. The unknown, distant magic of the moon is what makes our connection so special. My beautiful, cherished thoughts about him would be shattered if I were to visit that rocky, barren terrain.
Instead, I want to preserve the beautiful, glowing memories of my Chandoba and enjoy his presence from afar. There is no need to stand on his surface to know his love. So, there is no question of any payment. Our relationship is a timeless, heartfelt story written in the stars, a bond that will stay with me forever.
