How do you celebrate holidays?

This is interesting story on how we celebrate our holidays. We have two types of holidays like weekly off and public holidays. Normally public holidays are falling on some festival and the festivals have it’s own traditions and rituals. On such festival day, visiting Temple and preparing special food and offering to God is normal routine. Then we visit our friends and call them over and celebrate together.

This story is about weekends like Saturday/Sundays. I keep making plans for long drive to a scenic place or a nearby park because I love to travel & explore. My wife supports my planning and encourages to look for better places nearby for one day picnic. I am so excited with the plans and ready with menu for packed lunch etc. I do virtual Reece of the place and plan everything.

And the Sunday arrives. Normally Sunday is my complete rest day from exercise and other activities like TT etc. So we get up late and enjoy masala chai together. Then I am handed over the list of pending tasks 😢 by my wife like grocery purchase or some small repairs etc. By the time I start working on the tasks, breakfast is ready. In between I keep reminding that we have to go for a long drive and wife says yes, we will go once you finish this.

Post breakfast I move out to complete my To Do list and wife starts the house cleaning work. Which is her weekly task. Making the whole house neat & clean is the weekly task for her. In between I have to listen for my indiscipline of throwing clothes and books all over the house. My failed efforts of reminding her for long drive fall on deaf ears.

With all this hard work done, it is late aftrenoon and time for lunch. I see a ray of hope that we can go for long drive post lunch because by that time everything is done. By the time we finish lunch, wife is fully exhausted and has no energy left for the outing. Still I try for the short drive atleast and she says let me take litle bit rest and then we will go.

Once the weekly rest hours are finished, it’s time for another tea. By the time we finish afternoon tea, even my excitement is also gone. I give up the idea of long drive, thinking that house cleaning and making it tidy is also required and since my wife has office during the weekdays, she has only Sunday to manage all these things.

Finally in the evening we go for a short drive to a nearby mall or to a Temple and then the Sunday is finished. And the story continues on every holiday.

My daughter always says – Loves to travel, hates to travel hence travel sometimes.
