Sunday Musings
——————————————————————————————————

This is start of Pitru Paksh that means fifteen days to express gratitude towards our ancestors. Pitru Paksha , is a 16-lunar day period in the Hindu calendar when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors, especially through food offerings. The period is known with different names based on the region and languages but the central theme remains unchanged.
You must be wondering that what is the connection of Humour and Pitru Paksha. The humorous story I am going to narrate is based on this occasion. Read further to know the story
This is the real life story from our factory life. Many years ago in our company, the Plant head always used to be a foreigner. Normally he used to interact regularly with the senior management team to get update on the production etc. In those days our supervisor staff was promoted from operators and they were highly knowledgeable and skilled people but knew no English or little knowledge of English.
This story happened on Sarvapitri Amavasya. That is on the last day of Pitru Paksh. On this day most of the machine operators used to take half day leave and go home for offering the food to the ancestors. That day our plant head was on the shop round. He saw no operator on the machine and enquired with the supervisor available on the shop floor. The supervisor was scared to talk to him because he did not know English. Somehow he gathered courage and tried to reply the question asked – where are the operators?
The plant head was foreigner and having little knowledge of India and its culture. It was his first assignment in India and new to Nashik. Once again he looked at the supervisor with expectation of the answer and the supervisor was totally confused and tensed, he did not know English words to explain the ritual they do on this day. Somehow he replied hesitantly in his broken English. The conversation goes like this –
Supervisor : Sir, all the operators gone home
Plant head : why
Supervisor : Sir, today is the day when they will eat food with dead bodies.
Plant head : what? Eating food with dead bodies? Are you crazy
Supervisor : Sir, every year on this day, we eat food with all the dead bodies who visit us from heaven.
The plant head rushed to his cabin and urgently called all the senior management team for clarification. He was thinking to himself that these Indians are still behaving like tribal people and are engaged in black magic. He was scared to work with these people.
Then the senior management team, explained him the importance of the day and how we express gratitude towards our ancestors. Then the matter was resolved and he was at peace. Ha ha 😂
