We missed the tradition of eating Hing Goli

What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?

I come from traditional Maharashtrian Brahmin family. We have list of traditions spread over an year, linked to our religion. My mother was completely traditional and god fearing but my father was forward thinking and rational personality.

However all the family traditions are followed even today which are related to our religion. But me and my wife both were working so these traditions were modified to suit our lifestyle keeping the core values same.

We have celebrations throughout the year. The added attraction to these traditions is the prasad for God. Which is seasonal and unique. For example during Ganesha festival, he is offered Modak as a prasad. During Gudi Padva the famous sweet dish is Shreekhand. So all these traditions are still followed by us.

Missed Tradition of Hing Goli

Yes. My mother used to prepare a small toffee out of Hing ( Asafoetida ) Jaggery and homemade ghee. By mixing all these ingredients a small ball was made at home. This was given during Vasant Ritu or spring season. Normally one day before of Gudi Padva festival.

Combining hing (asafoetida), jaggery, and ghee offers several health benefits. This mixture is known to aid digestion, boost immunity and provide energy. It can also help in detoxification, improve skin and hair health, and potentially alleviate anemia.

This tradition we have not kept because the similar mixture along with Neem tree flowers is taken next day.

Most of the traditions inherited from parents and grand parents are helpful in living healthy and peaceful life. I am highly indebted to them for this.

Thank you for stopping by.

Have a great day ahead and keep smiling 😊
