Story behind my Nickname – KK

What’s the story behind your nickname?

KK

In India it is very common to have nicknames. Normally the nickname is derived from the original name but made simple for pronouncing it by shortening.

For example common name Rajesh or Rajendra becomes Raju. Sanjay or Sanjeev becomes Sanju. There are few nicknames which are given to show respect for the person for example in Maharashtra common respected nicknames are Bhau or Anna or Tatya.

The nickname is a symbol of love and respect for the person. This nickname is known to only close friends and relatives. It is not publicly used.

In my case the nickname was given as KK which is short form of my surname Karadkhedkar. My first boss who was from Austria, tried to pronounce my surname multiple times but he couldn’t get it right. The names he pronounced were funny and not at all matching with my surname. He got frustrated and finally came out with easy short form of the surname that was KK. Since then I am known as KK in my colleagues and friends. And my boss was so excited that he always used to introduce me as KK to all visitors and company colleagues.

Over a period of time, people have forgotten my original name and I am now known as KK.

Have a great day ahead and keep smiling 😊
