Gorakh Chinch

Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood?

Gorakh chinch or the English tamarind is my childhood favourite. I have lots of memories associated with it.

In summer holidays, I used to visit my paternal grandparents. Overall the experience was awesome. All d siblings used to be there and it was great fun. It was hot summer there but we were used to that weather.

The daily routine was to go out together in the forest around and climb the trees and enjoy. Normally summer time in India is mango season and Gorakh chinch was available in abundance. We used to pluck the fruits of these trees and enjoy eating them. My favourite was this Gorakh chinch.

The tree used to be small in height and full of fruits. When the fruits are ripe they become pinkish red and taste like sweet and sour. I love the taste.

Even today when go out cycling, there are few trees of Gorakh chinch. I stop by and pluck them and enjoy eating. It still reminds me of my childhood memories.

Thanks for stopping by and stay blessed.
