Three books with lasting impact

List three books that have had an impact on you. Why?

I love reading books. Books have got lasting impact on readers. They are very powerful media for the change in our thought process. I am book worm so I read anything and everything.

In my childhood I had finished reading all the books in our library. In my youth, I read most of the management books and self help books. Post retirement I am more focused on study of Hindu scriptures like Bhagavad Geeta, Dasbodh and Dnyaneshwari.

To answer the prompt, I would list down following three books which had high impact on my life.

  1. The Monk who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma.
  2. The Man called Carver by Veena Gavankar
  3. The Top Five Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari

This book is a Fiction by Robin Sharma who is widely considered as a one of the world’s top leadership and personal optimisation advisors.

This book is written in the form of conversation between two friends. Core of the book is virtue of 7 enlightened learning. This is from Himalayan Guru

I read this book multiple times and it has lasting impact on me.

The Man called Carver

Book by John Eraveli

I read this autobiography titled A Man called Carver. He was agricultural scientist and he has dedicated his life in improving and uplifting the life of underprivileged people. This book is originally written in Marathi language by Veena Gavankar and then translated to English by John Eraveli.

A gripping story about a man and his determination to succeed amidst hardship and hurdles, the book not only captures the essence of perseverance but also beautifully portrays how the desire and a thirst for knowledge indeed, does lead to greatness.

Short, simple and neatly written, author has touched every aspect of the life and struggles of Carver, his achievements and his many talents. Known as the Peanut Man in America and all around the world. This biography has served as an inspiration to hundreds of Indians all over the country.

The Top Five Regrets of the Dying

Must read for everyone. This is beautiful book based on the blogpost that reached 8 million readers. This famous book is authored by Bronnie ware, an Australian based author, speaker and songwriter.

She was in the job of taking care of patients on death bed. During the time she spent tending to the needs of those who were dying , Brownnie’s life transformed. Later, she wrote a blog post about the most common regrets that the people she cared for had expressed to her.

By applying the lessons of those nearing their death to her own life, Bronnie developed an understanding that it is possible for everyone, if they make conscious choices, to die with peace of mind.
