How often do you say “no” to things that would interfere with your goals?

Don’t say Yes when you want to say No
This is important trait of an assertive person. Please say No when it interferes with your goals. Do not worry about the persons authority or hierarchy in the organisation.
Assertiveness vs Arrogance
There is thin line between Assertiveness and Arrogance. It depends upon the way you say No. On many occasions inadvertently this line is crossed and you are labelled as Arrogant person. Please take care of your tone and delivery when saying No. You can always say No politely.
Strictly No to my core values
I always say No to compromise on my core values like Honesty Ethics and Integrity. On many occasions I have said No to highest level in the organisation. It surely affected my growth but I don’t care. Somethings in life are Non Negotiable.
Difficult to say No when it comes to Goals
I find it hard to say No when it interferes my goals. In Indian culture due to the long history of Yes Sir culture people find it very difficult to say No to bosses. In our company I have conducted many training sessions on Assertiveness. It is fear of the position of the person whom you are saying No. But it is always advisable to say No when you can’t meet the deadlines.
Face the consequences of saying No
The leadership is not yet ready to hear No from their subordinates. It is taken as non cooperation. And the person is punished during annual appraisals. This is changing slowly but surely. Often people say Yes even when he/she knows that it will not be done. And then the result is failure of commitment. True commitment gives clarity to everyone in the hierarchy.
To conclude say No when you cannot fulfil the promise.
Have a good day and keep smiling 😊
